Hot Shot rods are designed to fish plugs down current, below a boat. They have a stiff butt-section with a light tip that allows boat anglers to "watch" the plug's action through the tip's wiggle. Originally designed to fish Hot Shots, where the boat actually is positioned at the head of a run, letting the current “pull” the plug down into the fish zone, the boat sweeps back and forth, across the current so the plugs cover the entire width of the run, then slips further down stream, repeating the process. When a fish hits the plug, the magnum butt-section actually sets the hook and the boat operator keeps initial tension on the fish until the angler can grab the rod from the holder. Thanks to E6X technology it recovers quickly and that can be critical when the fish goes crazy. Sound like fun? You bet! And with the advent of numerous other small steelhead plugs like the Wee Wart and Brad's Wiggler, you'll find it effective on even the smallest coastal streams. A great way to catch fish and a fun way to enjoy the fight no matter what size the fish! The bigger the better!!!
