Ice fishing conditions across the area continue to struggle a bit with all of the snow we've had this year. Slush and water on the ice has been a headache for most, but there are a good number of anglers getting out still. Snowmobiles have been the best for getting out there, but you still need to be careful not to get buried.
Fishing has been hit and miss for the most part, likely due to lack of anglers on the ice to give a consistent report. Walleye fishing has been tough, but the panfish bite on many of the smaller lakes has been pretty good. Good gills in the mid morning and early afternoon are hitting waxies hard on most days. The evening Crappie bite has been solid, and it seems to start pretty early on most lakes which could be due to the heavy snow cover keeping everything pretty dark under the ice.
Overall if there is a will there is a way, but be very careful about any kind of vehicle on the ice - it seems as though every day there is another report of a vehicle going through the ice! Keeping our fingers crossed that the cold freezes us through at some point here or we get enough warm weather to settle everything down for a refreeze! Good luck out there and stay safe!
