Here we are after quite a roller coaster of a spring! Anglers are already flocking to the lakes up here, and we're expecting a pretty good opener! Everyone is probably itching for some time outside and there's no better place than on the water chasing walleye!
We're expecting the fishing to be pretty darn good. With the rapid ice out, we've seen the temps boost pretty good on the lakes in a short time so we expect the fish to be up shallow and hungry. As always the minnow bite will be hard to beat, but pitching leeches or crankbaits is always a solid plan for these shallow water fish.
Crappie have really begun to stack up in the shallower waters. During the early parts of the day go after them just off the ledges staging from the shallows, but once the sun has some time to warm things up you'll find them up shallow. While a slip bobber and minnow are tough to beat, you will probably do better pitching small plastics and covering more water.
The bait situation is pretty similar to usual this time of year with good supply of minnows, leeches, and crawlers. At this point we do not have spot tail shiners, but we currently do have some golden shiners and river shiners, along with rainbows, fatheads, and crappie minnows. Give us a call for up-to-date minnow supply.
Good luck this weekend!
