Fishing Report - October 17th, 2017

We're starting to finally get into some fall patterns here! Walleye are starting to hang in pockets off the deeper structure, mostly in 20-25 feet, but some pockets have been 25+. Jig and a minnow has been the go to for most boats, particularly the rainbows and shiners. Woman, Pine Mountain, Leech and Ten Mile have been producing the best right now. We still have heard of some pockets in shallow water, especially on Leech Lake, but most of the consistent action has been coming out of deeper water.

Muskie fishing has still been doing pretty well. The overall numbers have reduced, but the big fish are still moving. Slow down the presentation and don't be afraid to throw the big stuff. Bull dogs as usual this time of year is hard to beat. Twitching big crankbaits off the breaks, and slowing down jerkbaits have been a good way to go. Focus on the prime structure.

Grouse have been spreading out some this week, and with most of the leaves on the ground there is great visibility for getting some shots. Focus on the younger broomstick aspen stands near the edges or on trails within the stands. Woodcock should start showing up in the next week or two here so that will provide other opportunities in those same aspen stands.

The bucks are starting to make a lot more sign out in the woods - fresh scrapes and rubs seemed to have popped up overnight. Even with the warmer temps this week we should still see great activity, but especially once temps cool down again we should see some increasing deer activity in the tail end of the month.
