Fishing Report - August 7th, 2017

The walleye fishing has still been pretty rough as expected for this time of year. During the day the most productive way to catch fish is covering ground on the flats, but if you have a choice, focus on the early morning and late evening bite. Ten Mile Lake and Woman Lake have been producing some fish if you work at it. There have been reports of a night bite on Woman, and Ten Mile is producing those late open water fish as well.

Largemouth continue to hit very hard up in the weeds. Keep those heavy setups pulling through the garbage and you'll connect up with some largemouth. Frogs and other weedless rigs have been working well. Concentrate on these weedbeds during the day while they're stacked up under the shade. Smallmouth have also been biting, but a little more irregular. Usually the best time for the small jaws is in the early morning or evening, and topwater can be a great way to trigger them over the deeper breaks.

Sunfish are either coming out of shallow lily pad beds, or out of the deep weedlines. In either case it is hard to go wrong with a chunk of nightcrawler. Crappie are hitting in the evenings pretty well, and they're related to the tall cabbage and coontail weeds. 6-14' is typically where most of the crappies are hanging.

Muskie continue to heat up in this warm weather. Pretty consistent action day to day out on the main muskie lakes in the area like Leech, Baby, Little Boy, and Wabedo. Bucktails still seem to be producing the best, but don't be afraid to pull some jerkbaits or large plastics to mix it up. Lots of reports coming off the rocks!
