Ice Fishing Report, December 17th, 2018

Posted by

Fishing has been very good across the area this last week. Ice thickness has been solid enough on most lakes to get out and fish where you want to. We're seeing more and more wheelers and houses on the ice, but it is still early so check the ice the whole way out!

Night to night the bite has been better or worse, but overall walleye have been going pretty well in the evenings on area lakes. Leech has been pretty good, along with Birch, Woman, Pine Mountain, and Baby. Focus primarily in the 20' range, with some fish coming shallower and some deeper. Also, be sure to have some deadsticks down or even better, some tip-ups or rigs you can setup to get a better spread on an area.

Bluegill have been putting up a great morning bite on some of the smaller lakes in the area. Mostly the mid range depths have been best, 10-15', but bounce around until you find them. Waxies and maggies are usually best.

Crappie fishing has been good on the area lakes as well. Birch, Stony, Leech, Child, Webb, and Mule have all reported good bites. Mostly they're hanging off the deep edges in 20+ feet. Work off any significant structure going out into the main basins and search for them, but be ready to head out over the deep water related to structure because they might be cruising the big water. Some lakes are only giving up a short bite window in the evening before sunset, but when it comes it is fast so be ready!
