We had another great week of late ice fishing! It was softening up some on the top crust which made it a little tough for ATVs and other vehicles, but overall it was still pretty good. Foot traffic was no trouble at all once you get off the edges. The weekend has been cold and froze the top solid again so getting around is easy.
Jumbo perch were wild over the week, and slowed down with the cold front this weekend. Fish were still going, but it was a little bit slower. The anglers that did well seemed to be a little deeper than they were during the week.
Panfish were great during the week as well. Bluegill on most of the area lakes were doing great. Most good action was under 14' and some as shallow as 4' to 6' depending on the lake. Be ready with waxies to re-bait quick or better yet have a 2nd rod loaded and ready to go on the ice to get back quick when you lose your waxies. Taking advantage of the schools is key to pull more bluegills through the hole.
Crappie fishing was pretty good during the week as well. It was a little more spotty depending on the night and lake. Overall it was solid, but not lights out like the gills and jumbos. Evenings and mornings were key, but some afternoon bites were going on if you knew where to go.
