Hunting Report, September 24, 2018

Grouse hunting has been very hit and miss as usual for early season. Hunters have found a few birds, but you definitely have to work for them. The key to early season is to find their feed of choice as there are so many options for them this time of year. Usually dogwood and other berries are top picks right now, but we've been finding birds seeds/greens in crops mostly. We've found birds hanging around typical aspen cover as well. Just keep wearing off the boot leather and take notes when you see birds to try and figure out a pattern.

Duck openers was spotty, but some guys got into some great wood duck shoots. Local mallards and geese provided some action for some hunters as well. It was good weather for sitting in a duck blind this weekend though! With the cooler weather we're seeing on the forecast duck season might be pretty good earlier than normal this year.

Deer Archery hunters have been out and about. Bucks right now are still in their late summer patterns for the most part, and any preseason scouting is key to getting over the top of a nice buck. A few antlerless deer have been taken so far, but right now the acorns are king. Find the Burr Oaks that still have acorns and you should find deer!
