Hunting Report, November 5, 2018

Posted by

The 2018 Firearm Deer Opener was a beautiful weekend, and was certainly one of the nicest we've had in a while! The temps were still pretty cool, and calm winds and dry leaves made for some great hunting this last weekend, even if the deer weren't moving like crazy. Local hunter reports put it to a comparable year to last year in terms of numbers and activity. There was considerable rutting activity in some areas, but others reported minimal rutting activity. With the cold front coming in this week we should see some increased deer activity, and we'll likely see more rutting activity in the next week or two as well. It should be another great week/weekend.

Duck activity has been pretty minimal the last week in the area. A few local birds are around, but they are few and far between. Also we aren't seeing the migrating birds too much yet besides some scattered groups of ringbills. This cold front coming this week should help move some of the birds down from the north.

Grouse hunting has been getting better now that most of the abundant early season food is gone. Birds are finding their normal covers that offer their later season food forage. If you tag out on your deer early, bring a shotgun and get out after some Ruffs!
