Fishing Report, May 28, 2018

Posted by

It was a beautiful Memorial Weekend for those spending it on the Lake! The weather was shifted a little more towards the beach goers and tubers than the fishermen, but fish were definitely caught across the area!

We were hearing there was a great evening bite on many lakes for walleye. They are really moving up in the shallow waters to feed at last light and after. Woman, Pine Mountain, Ten Mile, Baby, and Little Boy have all been doing pretty good. Crankbaits and bouncing leeches or minnows down the breaks have been producing. Anywhere from 5' to 15' has been best in the later evening, but during the day you'll want to get 18'+ especially if it isn't windy/cloudy. Fish are surprisingly spread out during the day, and it has been hard to do better than a good drift.

Panfish are up shallow on all the mid to larger sized lakes. Many people reporting crappies up in the shallow reeds with the bluegill hanging just off the edge. Woman, Webb, Portage, and Pleasant have all been good. It won't be long and the crappie will be off the edge again, and you'll see more and more sunfish up tight to shore.

Smallmouth fishing has been fantastic with lots of pre-spawn sows getting plucked out of the rocks. Small plastics off the bottom have been doing very well with crankbaits and topwater doing well also in the right situations. Largemouth have been in their usual areas, primarily hanging around timber and any emerging weeds they can find. We'll see them drop into the normal slop once the weeds start developing a little more.

All in all we'll see patterns shift more summer like as the water warms, but right now we're actually seeing a very Memorial Weekend timed pattern, considering the late spring we're moving right along!
