Fishing Report, August 27, 2018

Posted by

Fishing has been great over the last week (for August) with great bass and muskie action all over the area. Largemouth are a little more aggressive, and with the cooler water have ventured out of the weeds onto the edges more. Smallmouth are actively cruising the first break and feeding pretty aggressively. We had several fish actually coming up on muskie lures off the drops.

Walleye fishing is better than it normally is this time of year, and we're seeing lots of good 'micro bites' up in shallow flats. Some of the area walleye lakes have been doing well late evening up on shallow flats. Throw cranks or live bait on jigs. They are aggressive when they're up so covering water is the best way to get into them. The bite seems to go after dark until midnight or so.

Crappie fishing has been pretty consistent across the area as well. Anglers are still finding them on the cabbage flats dragging light jigs to pull them out. Get your jig weight light enough to keep it ticking the tops of the weeds, but not sinking down into it. You can adjust your troll or retrieve speed to control your depth. The occasion slow rod lift and drop is a great way to trigger fish also during your retrieve.

Fishing should remain pretty good as the water temps start to come down and we move into fall fishing.
