Fishing Report, February 12th, 2018

It has been a cold week in the Hackensack Area! Fishermen have braved the cold though, and we were surprised at the number of people heading out this last weekend. Fishing has been so so with the saving grace the steady temps. If you had a nice warm fish house to sit in it was decent fishing! There should be some great fishing this week with the warm-up, but with the ups and downs in the temp predicted it will be tough to time the bites.

Walleye have been biting fairly consistently in the evening on Pine Mountain, Baby, and Leech. Rainbows have been working pretty well, and even a slower moving sucker minnow just off the bottom has worked pretty well also. They haven't been too aggressive, so subtle presentations have been working a little bit better than noisy jigging spoons and raps.

Bluegill are doing pretty well in the deeper weeds on Birch, Moccasin, Portage and some of the smaller lakes. 15'+ has been best so far with spikes and waxies. Focus on mid-day and into early afternoon for the best bite, but we've seen some good windows right before dark where the bigger gills are cruising.

Crappie have been a little more sluggish on most of the lakes, but you can count on a similar bite to the walleye action. Get on those deep edges and weedlines 16'-22' in the evening. Some lakes have produced some later running bites into the dark, but most are a flurry at last light and then slim pickings after that. Right now you can't beat a dead stick with a crappie minnow, but you need to have something down to draw in the fish with some action. Keep your deadstick rod a few feet away from your jigging stick.

Most fishermen have been sticking to the permanent houses due to the cold weather! The crappie bite in the area has been very consistent in the evening hours. Off [...]

Fishermen are still having success, but there has not been as many hot bites scattered around like they were finding last week. Overall walleye has been decent with steady evening fishing. Leech Lake is still producing a few off the humps. They [...]
