Ice Fishing Report, December 10th, 2018

Posted by

The lakes have been singing with the sound of ice making the last week! Most area lakes have 5 to 10 inches of ice right now - lots of variation as you would expect early season. Ten Mile and Walker Bay have been holding onto some patches of open water. Overall, foot traffic and wheeler/snowmobiles are good on most lakes, but as always, check often the whole way out because you never can be too sure this time of year.

Fishing has been hit and miss, but for the most part if you stay mobile you can find the bite. Leech Lake has been producing some walleye and perch primarily in the mornings and evenings. 16-20' has been the normal range, though we've heard some fish coming shallower. Fatheads have been working well along with rainbows.

We've heard some walleye reports from some smaller area lakes as well. The sunset bite reigns supreme right now. Some nights they come in hot and pound whatever you have down, other nights they will only hit a deadstick. Start in and around 20' of water, but have holes deeper and shallower to be able to bounce around at prime-time.

Crappie fishing has been very good across many area lakes. We haven't heard much for day bites, but evenings have been good. They cool it after dark, but the last hour has been great. Some lakes have schools of suspending fish you can get after, and others are structure related. We've been doing well finding a prominent point going out into deep water and focusing around there. Even if the fish aren't sitting right on structure they will often cruise by it or relate to it.

Ice Fishing Report, December 5th, 2018

We're seeing many more ice anglers now than we were a week ago. Most area lakes have ice thicknesses between 4 and 10 inches allowing at least foot traffic out there. Some of the lakes that froze earlier are seeing ATVs, but ice is still very inconsistent so be sure to check thickness often!Fishing has [...]

Ice Fishing Report, November 26, 2018

There were many more anglers out over this last weekend, though the ice conditions were still very hit and miss. We heard ranges from no ice, to half an inch, to 8 inches depending on lakes and where on lakes. Ice thicknesses vary on some lakes from skim ice to 8 inches so use extreme [...]

Ice Report, November 20, 2018

A few anglers have gotten out in the area on small water that froze really early, but we haven't heard of any thicknesses more than 4" so we do not recommend getting out there yet. We've heard some other reports of people out on smaller water north of us as well. We're hoping by this [...]

Ice Report, November 14, 2018

We haven't seen any safe ice yet in the area to fish on, but many small ponds and lakes have locked up the last few days. We do have a warmer forecast coming so we won't see much ice making, but we're getting closer! We have heard some reports of a few inches on Red [...]

Hunting Report, November 5, 2018

The 2018 Firearm Deer Opener was a beautiful weekend, and was certainly one of the nicest we've had in a while! The temps were still pretty cool, and calm winds and dry leaves made for some great hunting this last weekend, even if the deer weren't moving like crazy. Local hunter reports put it to [...]

Hunting Report, October 29, 2018

It's looking like it is coming together for a great Firearm Opener for 2018! Temps are going to be dropping over the weekend and the bucks are really starting get around. It's a common sight to see bucks running across the roads right now, and scrapes and rubs are popping up all over the place [...]

Fishing Report, October 29, 2018

Fishing had a little bit of a down-tick this week with the rainy weather and limited number of anglers hitting the water. Walleye/perch anglers that continued to go out caught fish, but it was definitely slower than the previous week. Jig and a minnow is the ticket right now in and around 20'. Up your [...]

Hunting Report, October 22, 2018

Archery hunters have been seeing a big increase in activity the last week. Buck sign as exploded out in the woods with scrapes and rubs showing up all over. Also reports of bucks chasing have started to increase. We should see the activity continue to increase leading up to the peak of the rut which [...]

Fishing Report, October 22, 2018

Walleye fishing continues to be very good across the area. Many anglers are heading to Leech, Woman, and Pine Mountain with the best results, but smaller lakes across the area have been producing as well. Minnows have been the solid bait of choice the last few weeks. A good healthy sized rainbow has been hard [...]
